Synopsis of The Boy and the Heron

During World War II, young Mahito Maki suffers a heartbreaking family tragedy and must immediately move to the countryside, where his father works for a family manufacturing airplanes for the Japanese army.

Isolated, Mahito begins to explore the mysterious landscapes and encounters a gray heron, persistent in his presence. The boy also comes across an abandoned tower. From there, The Boy and the Heron expands into a wonderful and often surprising phantasmagoria.
