Yuta Momiyama, the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Shonen Jump+, took to his Twitter account on Dec 28, 2023, to talk about the significance of MANGA Plus when it came to titles getting picked for to overseas live-action adaptations.

In the tweet, he shared insights from a recent conversation he had with a senior colleague overseeing overseas live-action film adaptation, highlighting a significant surge in negotiations with foreign countries to create adaptations like that of One Piece.

According to Momiyama, what stood out was the revelation that many locals, when asked how they discovered these works, pointed to MANGA Plus as their primary source.

Interestingly, discussions about adapting certain works into live-action seemed to emerge even before their anime adaptations or the official release of tankobon (collected volumes) in Japan.

Moreover, he highlighted instances where MANGA Plus served as a reference for individuals considering translation and publication offers from different countries.

With numerous captivating manga available on Jump and Jump+, Momiyama encouraged individuals in the international publishing and film industries to actively explore MANGA Plus for a diverse range of interesting content.

The other day, I had a chance to talk with a senior in charge of overseas live action adaptation.
In recent years, there has been a huge increase in talk of negotiations with foreign countries to make live action adaptations like ONE PIECE, but when asked how they found out about the work, many locals say they found it on MANGA Plus.

It seems that some works come up as a topic of discussion during negotiations to adapt them into live-action even before they are made into anime or even before the its volume is published in Japan.
I also often hear that people use MANGA Plus to read translation and publication offers from other countries and use them as reference.

MANGA Plus was started for readers around the world, but it also has a function like a catalog for those involved in translation publishing and film production overseas. There are many interesting manga available on Jump and Jump+. I would like people in the publishing and film to continue to explore them actively on MANGA Plus.

Momiyama had previously revealed in one of his blogs that the editorial department keeps track of international reception of various titles in MANGA Plus, and that this data was being used to assist in determining which titles will be adapted into anime.

He had highlighted the growing importance of the overseas anime market back then, just like how he talked about the growing importance of the overseas live action film/series adaptation this time.

MANGA Plus is an online manga platform and smartphone app owned by Shueisha that was launched on January 28, 2019. It is available worldwide except in Japan, China, and South Korea which already have their own services, including Shonen Jump+, the original Japanese service.

A subscription service called “Manga Plus MAX” was added to the app in October 2023.
