Black Butler Manga Goes On A Hiatus As Author Prepares For Climax

Yana Toboso’s Black Butler manga will be going on an indefinite hiatus starting from the August 2024 issue of Square Enix’s monthly magazine, G Fantasy.

The August issue is set to release in Japan on July 18, 2024.

This announcement was made on the official X account for G Fantasy magazine on June 18, 2024.

In a statement included in the announcement, Toboso explained that the hiatus is necessary to allow her to conduct research and prepare for the manga’s upcoming climax. The full statement of the author can be read below:

To Everyone Who Supports Black Butler,

Thank you very much for always supporting Black Butler. This time, I will be taking a somewhat longer maintenance break! Since my debut in 2004, it will be 20 years in 2024. I have been able to continue working without major illness or rest for such a long time thanks to your warm support.

During this period, while taking good care of my mind and body, I will be conducting the necessary research and preparations for the climax of Black Butler. I deeply apologize to everyone who looks forward to the monthly serialization. I will return in the best condition, so I would be grateful if you could wait a little while longer.

Yana Toboso

The exact date of Black Butler‘s return is unknown at this time. However, G Fantasy will be republishing past chapters during the hiatus.

Regarding the resumption of the serialization, we will announce it in the monthly G Fantasy magazine as soon as it is decided. Additionally, during the hiatus starting from the next issue, we plan to reprint past serialized chapters of Black Butler. Thank you for your understanding.
