Crunchyroll’s Spring 2024 Line-Up Offers Both Isekai and Traditional Fantasy Anime

Several of Spring 2024’s highlights belong to the popular isekai genre — a fantasy story where an ordinary person passes away and is reborn into a fantasy universe. This is the premise of Mushoku Tensei, which revolves around a 34-year-old Japanese shut-in who gets run over by a truck and is reborn in a new world as Rudeus Greyrat — and finally has the chance to live the adventurous life he’s always dreamed of. Crunchyroll will begin streaming the second cour of Season 2 starting April 7. KonoSuba fans can also look forward to the debut of Season 3, which follows main protagonist Kazuma Katou as he attempts to abandon adventuring and start a peaceful new life as a monk. Crunchyroll will begin streaming Season 3 on April 10.

Studio 8bit’s extremely popular The Irregular at Magic High School is likewise receiving a third season. This series is set up like a traditional fantasy anime, where the protagonists are natives of the fantasy world. The Irregular at Magic High School takes place in a world where innate magical talents are augmented through the use of technology. Protagonists Tatsuya and Miyuki Shiba both attend the titular high school to hone their respective abilities. In Season 3, Tatsuya begins training at the newly established Department of Magical Engineering. Meanwhile, the outside world edges ever closer to the outbreak of war. Season 3 is set to premiere on April 5.

Romance and Slice-of-Life Anime Make Strong Showings This Spring 2024 Season

Those craving something besides fantasy are in luck, as the upcoming season also features pickings from several other major genres. In the romance department, Tadaima, Okaeri follows married husbands Hiromu Fujiyoshi and Masaki Fujiyoshi as they work together to raise their two-year-old son, Hikari. While the pair often face societal prejudice because of their differing social classes, the love they have for one another, as well as for Hikari, only grows stronger. In contrast, The Duke of Death and His Maid is a romance with a tragic edge. In days of old, a witch cursed the titular duke so that whatever he touched would die. Because of this, he endures a life of suffering and loneliness — that is, until the day his maid Alice decides that she wants to break the spell. These titles are set to premiere on April 7 and April 8, respectively.

Bartender: Glass of God is one of the more unique series on the list. As the title suggests, the plot revolves around a master mixologist named Ryu Sasakura who is able to rejuvenate people with the power of his drinks. At his bar, Eden Hall, Ryu encounters many people who bear great emotional burdens. However, simply by preparing them a cocktail, Ryu manages to make their struggles just a little bit easier. The anime has a laid-back slice-of-life vibe that is likely to appeal to fans of the genre. The series is scheduled to debut on April 3.
