Detective Conan’s 27th Feature Film Surpass 10 Billion Yen In 22 Days

The 27th feature film of Detective Conan film series, titled  Detective Conan: The Million-Dollar Pentagram, has achieved a remarkable feat, surpassing 10 billion yen in box office revenue, attracting over 7.32 million audience, within just 22 days of its release.

This marks the first time in Japanese anime film history that a franchise has achieved 10 billion yen for two consecutive films.

The film’s distributor, Toho, highlighted the exceptional pace at which it reached this milestone, surpassing the previous film, Detective Conan: Kurogane no Submarine, which achieved the same feat in 24 days.

The film continues its rapid advance without losing momentum, and is aiming to break all previous records,” Toho stated.

Regarding the film’s reception, the distributor said, “This work, which is packed with all three pillars of mystery, love comedy, and action, has people discovering new things every time they watch it, and many people are making repeat visits to the cinema. It has also won the top spot at the weekend box office ranking for three consecutive weeks (according to Kogyo Tsushin), and the 27th instalment of the Detective Conan theatrical series continues to gain momentum.  Detective Conan: The Million-Dollar Pentagram hit the Japanese theatres on April 12, 2024.

The film had achieved the second highest opening weekend collection for an anime movie, overtaking the opening week gross of JJK 0 movie (2.6 billion yen).

It also surpassed the opening day numbers of the 26th feature film with a significant 112% increase.

Chika Nagaoka served as the director for Detective Conan: The Million-Dollar Pentagram, with screenplay by Takahiro Okura.

The 26th feature film, Detective Conan: Kurogane no Submarine released on April 14, 2023.

Twenty-seven feature films based on the Case Closed series have been released. They are animated by TMS Entertainment and produced by Yomiuri Telecasting Corporation, Nippon Television, ShoPro, and Toho. The first seven were directed by Kenji Kodama, films 8–14 were directed by Yasuichiro Yamamoto, films 15-21 were directed by Kobun Shizuno, film 22 was directed by Yuzuru Tachikawa, films 23 and 24 were directed by Chika Nagaoka, and film 25 was directed by Susumu Mitsunaka.

Detective Conan, is a Japanese detective manga series written and illustrated by Gosho Aoyama. It has been serialized in Shogakukan’s shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shonen Sunday since January 1994, with its chapters collected in 102 tankōbon volumes as of September 2022.

Due to legal problems with the name Detective Conan, the English language releases from Funimation and Viz were renamed to Case Closed.

The anime version of Case Closed is produced by Yomiuri Telecasting Corporation and TMS Entertainment. Over 1000 episodes have aired in Japan since the anime’s premiere on January 8, 1996, making it the fifteenth longest anime series to date.
