Toei Animation left all fans of Goku and company with a very pleasant news with the new Dragon Ball anime announced at the most recent edition of the New York Comic Con. Anime which will be known under the title of Dragon Ball Daima. Below we will review all the details that have been revealed so far regarding this new project in the franchise created by Akira Toriyama.
This new series will be launched as a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the classic Dragon Ball manga, which was first published on November 20, 1984. Its start date is scheduled for the winter season of 2024..
The story of Dragon Ball Daima would cover the more than 5 years that have passed since the last episode of Dragon Ball Super. After episode 131 (that is, after the culmination of the fight against Jiren in the tournament of strength) and will be located chronologically in the middle of the events of Dragon Ball Super: Broly and before those of Dragon Ball Super: SUPER HERO.
This new anime will have a premise previously used in the franchise. It is possible to visualize how the Z Warriors as well as secondary characters such as Bulma, Milk, Mr. Satan and even the supreme kaio-samas are transformed into children thanks to a wish from Shenlong made by 2 mysterious characters whose identity is still unknown. In case you haven’t caught it yet, this premise is quite similar to the one used in the remembered Dragon Ball GT. Series created entirely by Toei Animation and which only had Toriyama to design the new characters.
Recall that a series of speculations had already arisen among fans about the arrival of a new anime series since June of last year, when Akio Iyoku, head of the Shueisha publishing house, commented in an interview for V-Jump magazine. about future plans for the franchise regarding anime projects following the release of DBS: Super Hero in Japanese theaters. His response was “Well, if you ask… a new production of the franchise is… already underway! Super Hero took us 5 years to make, so it’s natural that we’re already working on what’s next. Master Toriyama is always working on new Dragon Ball concepts and ideas, after all. “We are all thinking about what we want to show the world.”the latter making a clear focus on what was already revealed today.
It would not be the first time that Toriyama decides to “canonize” a concept originally thought of by Toei. We already saw it with the story of Bardock, Goku’s father, in the Dragon Ball Minus manga, and later with Broly and Gogeta, two very popular characters from old movies, in Dragon Ball Super: Broly. Although the greatest expectation of the fans was based on an adaptation of the last arcs of the Super manga, which has continued all these years after the end of the tournament of strength arc in its anime version, it seems that for now It is not in Toei Animation’s plans to adapt Moro’s arc like Granola’s.
Being a canonical project within the anime, there are still no plans for its international distribution once it is broadcast on Japanese television. Toei is expected to partner again with Crunchyroll after jointly distributing the SUPER HERO movie in theaters around the world.
