The Plot of Dragon Ball Super and Where It Fits Into the Franchise Timeline
Taking place within the 10-year timeskip near the end of Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Super follows Goku and his fellow Z-warriors as they take on new threats against humanity from different galaxies and dimensions. The first two major story arcs are TV adaptations of the 2013 anime movie Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods and the 2015 theatrical release of Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’. Afterward, Dragon Ball Super lives up to its namesake with an anime-original storyline about the fight for the seven Super Dragon Balls, a more powerful form of the regular Dragon Balls that is unlimited in its ability to grant a user’s wish.
At the time of its release, Dragon Ball Super was the first new Dragon Ball anime project in 18 years by creator Akira Toriyama. Today, the Dragon Ball franchise thrives with the Dragon Ball Super manga, new theatrical releases like Dragon Ball Super: Broly and Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, and various video games like Dragon Ball FighterZ and Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero. A new anime TV series called Dragon Ball Daima will also be released this year in the fall.
