Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is Crunchyroll’s first global theatrical release. The movie is coming to U.S. theaters on August 19, both in sub and dub. Tickets will go on sale beginning from July 22.
Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama oversees the screenplay, while Tetsuro Kodama is directing the film. Dragon Ball Super is the sequel to the Dragon Ball manga. The Dragon Ball Super anime adaptation ran from July 2015 to March 2018, concluding with a total of 131 episodes. The first film of the series was Dragon Ball Super: Broly, which premiered in 2018. Overall, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is the 21st film in the Dragon Ball franchise.
“The Red Ribbon Army was once destroyed by Son Goku. Individuals, who carry on its spirit, have created the ultimate Androids, Gamma 1 and Gamma 2,” states the official synopsis from Crunchyroll. “These two Androids call themselves ‘Super Heroes.’ They start attacking Piccolo and Gohan… What is the New Red Ribbon Army’s objective? In the face of approaching danger, it is time to awaken, Super Hero!”
Given the vibe of the film after viewing the first trailer, it seems that Gohan and Piccolo might be the lead stars of the movie, rather than the usual duo of Goku and Vegeta. It might be interesting to see how Gohan copes up without his overpowered Dad and shines into the spotlight in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.
