Attack On Titan creator Hajime Isayama almost cried at Anime NYC, as fans showed support for the ending of the manga.

The author was on the receiving end of hate from fans over the ending of Attack on Titan, and he was down in the dumps for a long time over this. He opened up about his feelings at the Anime NYC panel, saying that he still had doubts within himself about the ending, and he wasn’t sure if he was able to land it. This was something that made him struggle even now.

Isayama then went ahead and apologized to the fans for Attack on Titan‘s controversial ending. However, the fans at the panel cheered and showed their support for the author, saying they loved him. The positive reaction almost made the author shed a tear.

Isayama also revealed a special message at the end of the Anime NYC panel, expressing his gratitude to the fans, who made him feel loved and happy.

“I want to express my gratitude to all fans. I wasn’t sure how to feel about the end of the story. I was having a really difficult time and I apologize. Carrying heavy feelings, I was down for a long time, until yesterday when I met fans during the signing. Fans told me the ending was great and that they loved the ending and it made me happy and coming to New York was a great experience for me. Thank you.”

Born in 1986 in Oita Prefecture, Isayama made his debut in 2008 and started his first serialization, Attack on Titan, in 2009. The manga was serialized in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shonen Magazine.
