My Hero Academia: You’re Next is a huge hit in Japan
The latest film installment in the popular anime franchise, “My Hero Academia: You’re Next”has proven to be an overwhelming success in Japan. Since its release, the film has captured the attention and enthusiasm of fans of all ages, establishing itself as a box office phenomenon.
In its first weekend at the Japanese box office, the film sold 608,500 entries and totaled approximately 895 million yen in its first three days in Japanese theaters, taking the top spot in the earnings chart. This impressive performance underscores the strong influence and popularity that My Hero Academia continues to have among anime fans.
My Hero Academia: You’re Next offers a unique opportunity for fans to enjoy a surprise narrative, as the franchise’s cinematic universe follows a different timeline than the original. This separation allows author Kohei Horikoshi to explore new stories.
Kohei Horikoshi, the talented author of the original manga, provided overall supervision for the film and character design. The film’s original story takes place around the same time as the current TV anime, against a backdrop of the collapse of safe society.

My Hero Academiacreated by Kohei Horikoshi, is a manga that began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 2014. The story follows Izuku Midoriya, a powerless young boy in a world where 80% of the population has some form of supernatural ability called a “Quirk.” Despite not having a Quirk of his own, Izuku dreams of becoming a hero, and thanks to a chance encounter with the greatest hero of all time, All Might, his dream begins to come true.
The manga has been adapted into a successful anime by Bones Studios, which premiered in 2016 and has continued with multiple seasons due to its huge popularity. The franchise has expanded its universe with films, video games and a large number of derivative products, consolidating itself as one of the most influential series of the last decade.
