In a much anticipated update for the upcoming live-action film adaptation of One Punch Man, it has been revealed that Sony Pictures has enlisted the talents of Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon, alongside Heather Anne Campbell, to pen the script.

Dan and Heather will be replacing the previously announced writers, Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, to rewrite the script.

Sony’s Columbia Pictures announced on April 21, 2020, that they were developing a live-action film adaptation. On June 13, 2022, Justin Lin was unveiled as the director and co-producer, with plans for production to commence later in the year.

One Punch Man is a Japanese superhero manga series created by One. One wrote the original webcomic manga version in early 2009.

A digital manga remake, illustrated by Yusuke Murata, began publication on Shueisha’s Tonari no Young Jump website in June 2012. Its chapters are periodically compiled and published into individual tankobon volumes. As of March 2024, 30 volumes have been released.

An anime adaptation produced by Madhouse was broadcast in Japan from October to December 2015. A second season, produced by J.C.Staff, was broadcast from April to July 2019. A third season also by J.C.Staff has been announced.

MAL describes the plot of One Punch Man as:

After rigorously training for three years, the ordinary Saitama has gained immense strength which allows him to take out anyone and anything with just one punch. He decides to put his new skill to good use by becoming a hero. However, he quickly becomes bored with easily defeating monsters, and wants someone to give him a challenge to bring back the spark of being a hero.

Upon bearing witness to Saitama’s amazing power, Genos, a cyborg, is determined to become Saitama’s apprentice. During this time, Saitama realizes he is neither getting the recognition that he deserves nor known by the people due to him not being a part of the Hero Association. Wanting to boost his reputation, Saitama decides to have Genos register with him, in exchange for taking him in as a pupil. Together, the two begin working their way up toward becoming true heroes, hoping to find strong enemies and earn respect in the process.
