Oshi No Ko anime’s opening theme song, “Idol,” by YOASOBI has achieved yet another remarkable feat, as it claimed the top spot on Apple Music’s “Top 100: Global” ranking.

The song was also ranked #1 on both the latest Oricon Weekly Digital Single Ranking and Oricon Weekly Streaming Ranking, as revealed on June 21, 2023, setting a new record for the highest weekly streaming count for 2023.

Idol by YOASOBI had also secured first place on the U.S. Billboard’s global chart (excluding U.S), making it the first Japanese song to accomplish this feat.

Yoasobi is a Japanese music superduo formed in 2019 by Sony Music Entertainment Japan, composed of Vocaloid producer Ayase, and singer-songwriter Ikura

Yoasobi’s debut single, “Yoru ni Kakeru”, gave them their breakthrough by reaching atop the Billboard Japan Hot 100 for six non-consecutive weeks and the 2020 year-end chart, and becoming the first song in Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) history to be certified diamond for streaming.

It was followed by several successful singles, such as Blue Period-inspired “Gunjo”, and anime series theme songs “Kaibutsu” and “Yasashii Suisei” for Beastars, “Shukufuku” for Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury, and “Idol” for Oshi no Ko.
