Slime Producer & Editor Highlight Gobta & Beretta As Underrated Characters Deserving More Fan Love

In a recent interview, Riichiro Umetsu, the editor of That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime manga and light novel series, and Shinichiro Narita, the anime’s producer, shared their thoughts on which characters they believe deserve more love from fans.

When asked about characters deserving more fan love, Umetsu immediately mentioned Gobta.

He highlighted Gobta’s ability to connect with people, suggesting that the character’s charm is often underestimated.

“Gobta (laughs). He is an underling, but you can kind of say he is the bad friend that you can goof off together with. He can see eye-to-eye with people, so I think he’s a character that deserves more attention.“

The producer, on the other hand, mentioned Beretta, a character he feels is often overlooked despite their significant contributions to the plot.

“So in this world of very unique characters, I would have to say Beretta. Because they are tossed around in the plot a lot, but have a very strong backbone and put in a lot of effort to keep living. So that should be a focus point. Please give them more love because they are trying their best.“

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is a Japanese fantasy light novel series written by Fuse, and illustrated by Mitz Vah.

It was serialized online from 2013 to 2016 on the user-generated novel publishing website Shosetsuka ni Naro. It was later acquired by Micro Magazine, which published the first light novel volume in 2014. Twenty-one volumes have been released as of October 2023.

Taiki Kawakami launched a manga adaptation in Kodansha’s shonen manga magazine Monthly Shonen Sirius on March 26, 2015. along with five manga spin-offs.

An anime television series adaptation produced by Eight Bit aired from October 2018 to March 2019. A second season of the anime series aired from January to September 2021, and an anime adaptation of the second spin-off manga aired from April to June 2021.

 Season 3 of the anime started airing on April 5, 2024.

An anime film was released in November 2022. A three-episode original net animation spin-off titled Visions of Coleus was released in November 2023.
