Studio Pierrot Launches New Sub-Studio For Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War

In a recent interview with Men’s Non-No the producer of Bleach, Yoshihiko Tominaga, disclosed that Studio Pierrot is launching a new studio ‘PIERROT FILMS’.

By launching the new sub-brand, Studio Pierrot, known for long-running series like Naruto and Bleach, is making a strategic shift, acknowledging the evolving anime landscape and the growing demand for high-quality, shorter-season anime, a trend Pierrot hasn’t always embraced as effectively as other studios.

Tominaga revealed that while the studio excels at long-term productions, it hasn’t always kept pace with the trend of shorter, impactful series like Jujutsu Kaisen. To adapt to this changing audience preference PIERROT FILMS will focus on producing such projects, starting with the highly anticipated Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War.

In recent years, there has been a shift in the anime industry towards producing high-quality series with shorter seasons. While Pierrot is known for its long-running and consistently high-quality productions, it has also gained a reputation as a “studio specialized in long-running series.” While there is certainly value in providing viewers with uninterrupted entertainment over the course of two to three years, Pierrot recognizes that it has not traditionally excelled at producing high-quality works in a short period of time, such as the popular “Jujutsu Kaisen.” Given the current climate in which it is increasingly difficult to maintain consistently high quality while producing uninterrupted content, Pierrot believes it is time to re-evaluate its approach to production and company structure.

To address these challenges, Pierrot has established a new studio called PIERROT FILMS.

According to him, this move is targeted towards those who enjoyed anime like Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen.

Moreover, he also revealed that in addition to Bleach, the new studio will also tackle the adaptation of mature manga and original content.

At this studio, we’ll be working on projects based on mature manga and original works. The next series after ‘BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War’ will also be produced at ‘PIERROT FILMS.’ We see this as a project targeting those who have enjoyed ‘Demon Slayer’ and ‘Jujutsu Kaisen,’ so our goal is to firmly enhance the studio’s brand power while providing high-quality visuals and stories in a short period.
