TBS Holdings Reports Sharp Decline In Anime Division’s Revenue

November 14, 2023

In a recent financial disclosure on Nov 10, 2023, TBS Holding reported a sharp decline in the revenue of its anime division for the interim period ending in September.

According to the report, the sales revenue exhibited a significant drop of 53.1%, reaching 530 million yen, compared to the same period last year. At the same time, the gross profit also saw a decrease of 38.4%, amounting to 303 million yen.

This financial setback is attributed to the absence of projects that could match the success of the previous year’s hit films, The Quintessential Quintuplets and Platinum End. The company describes this decline as “Handō-gendearu,” which roughly translates to “recoil reduction”.

The sales trajectory for TBSHD’s anime division is as follows:

TBS Holdings, Inc., formerly Tokyo Broadcasting System Holdings, Inc., is a Japanese media and licensed broadcasting holding company. It is the parent company of the television network TBS Television and radio network TBS Radio.

Clannad, Kaichou Wa Maid Sama, Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!, and K-On! are some of the anime produced by TBS.
