The Boy And The Heron Becomes Fourth Highest Grossing Anime Film In The US

Hayao Miyazaki’s latest anime film – The Boy and the Heron has become the fourth highest grossing anime film in the U.S. overtaking Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, which previously held the position.

The anime film released in the country on Dec 8, 2023, and has earned over 39 million USD in over one month from its theatrical run.

The Boy and the Heron is preceded by two Pokemon movies and Demon Slayer: Mugen Train. Check out the top 4 movies and their earnings below:

The Boy and the Heron earned USD 1,817,762 in its opening weekend in the U.S. and came in at the 12th position in the box office.

The movie has also been a critical success, bagging the Best Animated Film award at Golden Globe 2024 and becoming the first anime film to do so. It has also been nominated for numerous other awards and is also eligible to be considered for the Best Picture at this years Oscars.

Additionally, Hayao Miyazaki had also been bestowed with Astra Award for Best International Filmmaker on Jan 6, 2024, for his work on the film.

The Boy And The Heron (called How Do You Live), released in Japan on July 14, 2023. It became the first ever Studio Ghibli film to get simultaneous IMAX release. It also became the first-ever animated film as well as Japanese film to open the 48th Toronto International Film Festival.
