The novel set in the Edo period, “Shabake”, will have an anime series in 2025
Aniplex announced this Monday that the historical fantasy novel series Shabakewritten by Megumi Hatakenakawill inspire a television anime series that will premiere in 2025.

The story of the novels is set in Edo, and focuses on a sickly but kind-hearted young man, and the mysterious spirit that watches over him.
Takahiro Ōkawa (unit director of Hula Fulla Dance, Malevolent Spirits: Mononogatari) is directing the anime in BN Pictures. Touko Machida (Lucky Star, Smile Down the Runway) supervises the scripts of the series, Akari Minagawa (The Perfect Prince Loves Me, the Side Character?!) designs the characters and Rei Ishizuka (Ayakashi Triangle, The Orbital Children) composes the music. Daiki Yamashita will star in the anime as Ichitarō.
The first novel in the series was released in 2001, with numerous sequels since then. The series has also inspired two live-action television series, manga, radio plays, plays, musicals, and illustrated books. An anime adaptation of the novels aired in July 2021. The novels have more than 10 million copies in circulation.
