Kpop idol Soobin from TXT is facing intense backlash after fans dug up an old an old live-session where he stated that that he was enjoying watching Made In Abyss season 2. Despite expressing his liking for the anime, Soobin made it clear that he would not recommend it due to its provocative nature.
“Made In Abyss season 2 is coming out. Honestly, I didn’t find the first season very enjoyable, but the second season was a lot of fun. It’s not an anime I’d strongly recommend because it can be a bit provocative, but the story is genuinely good, and I’m enjoying watching it.“
However the question remains,
What made the fans dig up an old video of Soobin?
It all began on Nov 17, 2023, when a video of RIIZE’s Seunghan and Soobin chatting on Instagram live went viral. In the leaked exchange, Seunghan was seen teasing Soobin about his abilities, claiming he couldn’t sing, dance, or rap. The situation escalated when Seunghan brought LE SSERAFIM’s Eunchae into the conversation.
In response, Soobin retaliated by making a potentially offensive gesture with his foot, a move that has stirred up considerable backlash.
While Seunghan is known for his controversial content on private live sessions, fans were particularly shocked by Soobin’s involvement in the matter.
This prompted them to look into his old contents, where they found the Weverse livestream of him talking about Made In Abyss anime.
This led to Soobin facing heavy criticism from the fans, with them making strong accusations against Soobin, claiming that he supports content involving sensitive and illegal activities.
Comments such as “soobin best leader,” “he watched anime containing child abuse” and “if you defend Soobin, you support children pornography and paedophilia” have flooded online platforms.
Soobin isn’t the only one facing the backlash, as netizens also dragged other idols who have discussed or recommended Made in Abyss. This included NCT’s Taeyong, SEVENTEEN’s Woozi, WEi’s Yongha and ATEEZ’s Mingi.
Many fans also defended Soobin, stating that the criticism was based on misinterpretation. They emphasized that the anime contains disturbing themes intentionally crafted to evoke discomfort, and that Soobin had never explicitly recommended it.
They also pointed out that Made in Abyss is a popular thriller anime with high ratings and that the Korean version is censored to remove problematic content.
It’s crucial to note that the Korean version of Made in Abyss is heavily censored to remove potentially controversial content. IMDB indicates that the Korean edited version is rated suitable for audiences aged 15 and above, while the original version holds a PG19 rating.
