The hosts of a One Piece themed variety show had the opportunity to tour the Jump editorial department a few weeks ago. During this visit they ran into the editor of Jujutsu Kaisen manga Junya Fukuda, and talked to him about different things, including the ending of the manga.

The hosts were initially shocked to see the rough draft of the JJK chapter that Fukuda was editing, and their reaction suggested that the manga had some crazy twists in store for the fans in the upcoming weeks.

As Fukuda and the hosts talked more, it came to light that author Gege Akutami has already decided on how Jujutsu Kaisen manga would come to an end. According to Fukuda, Akutami explained everything to him till the end, accidentally, in a meeting.

“He told me like how he wanted things to go. and he’s got it all planned out,” Fukuda told the hosts.

While Fukuda said that he enjoyed getting “spoiled” on the plot of the manga, he was looking forward to see how Akutami executed the story it in the end after talking about it. For the editor, this was the fun part.

Fukuda’s comment only reaffirms what Akutami had revealed earlier in the Jujutsu Kaisen fanbook, where he said that he had the ending planned out and he only needs to think about how to reach these endings.

For instance, he revealed that he had already decided the fate of Megumi, however Yuji’s fate was still up in the air at that time.

On top of that, during a Jump Festa interview (2019), Akutami had stated that there were two ways the story could progress. Either only one character would die out of the main four (Gojo, Yuji, Megumi and Nobara) or only one of them would survive.

It needs to be seen if Akutami is still following these initial plans that were laid out by him.

The author had revealed at Jump Festa 2024 that it would probably be the last Jump Festa that JJK is a part of, suggesting that the manga could very well reach its conclusion by the end of 2024.

Jujutsu Kaisen has been serialized in Shueisha’s shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shonen Jump since March 2018, with its chapters collected and published in 25 tankobon volumes as of January 2024.

By July 2023, the Jujutsu Kaisen manga had over 80 million copies in circulation.

A 24-episode anime television series adaptation produced by MAPPA, aired on MBS from October 2020 to March 2021. Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 aired from July to December 2023.

A movie adaptation of Jujutsu Kaisen prequel, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 premiered in Japan in December 2021.
