Crunchyroll Reveals US, Canada, UK, Australia & New Zealand Release Dates For Sword Art Online Scherzo Of The Deep Night

Streaming giant Crunchyroll announced on Dec 13, 2022, that Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Scherzo of Deep Night, the second movie in the Progressive series, will release in multiple English speaking territories worldwide, including US, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland.

Crunchyroll, along with Aniplex of America, are in charge of distributing the movie. Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Scherzo of Deep Night will hit the theatres in both Japanese with English subtitles and English dubbed.

The release dates for Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Scherzo of Deep Night are given below:

  • United States: Releasing on Feb 3, 2022
  • Canada: Releasing on Feb 3, 2022
  • United Kingdom: Releasing on Feb 1, 2022
  • Australia: Releasing on Feb 2, 2022
  • New Zealand: Releasing on Feb 2, 2022
  • Ireland: Releasing on Feb 1, 2022

A new trailer was also released to commemorate the announcement.

Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Scherzo of Deep Night released in Japan on Oct 22, 2022, after facing a delay due to COVID-19 related issues. It was initially supposed to release on Sep 10, 2022.

The movie is being animated by A-1 Pictures and the staff from the previous movie have been retained for the sequel too.

Haruka Tomatsu, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, and Shiori Izawa will be reprising their roles as Asuna, Kirito and Argo in the sequel movie. They will be joined by Kaede Hondo as Liten and Yusuke Kobayashi as Morte.

Sword Art Online: Progressive is an expanded retelling of the Aincrad storyline from the original Sword Art Online light novels. The novels became a reality after Tomohiko Ito, the director of Sword Art Online Season 1, asked author Reki Kawahara to write a short story for episode two of the anime, to fill in the gaps that were in flow of the story.
