Doctor Shoplifts Gundam Plastic Model, Gets Arrested

A 48-year-old doctor from Hiroshima, Japan was arrested on suspicion of theft after he shoplifted a Gundam plastic model from a convenience store.

The doctor, whose identity has not been revealed, stole the plastic model of Gundam that was kept near the cash registry at a convenience store in Minami Ward, Hiroshima City.

The clerk who noticed that the model was missing, informed the police of the theft on the same day. According to the manager of the convenience store, the stolen model was a Gundam Lottery Prize called the “the last one”.

Upon being questioned by the cops, the doctor admitted to the crime saying he stole the Gunpla model. Further investigation is being carried on into the incident.

Gundam Lotteries are carried out by Gundam Merchandising shops (Banpresto, Ichiban Kuji), giving fans a chance to win various gifts, including Gundam Plastic models. The Last One prize is a Gundam Plastic model of the titular mobile suit RX-78-2 from the Mobile Suit Gundam series.

Part of the RX-78 Gundam series, it was built in secret on Side 7. The Gundam would turn the tide of war in favor of the Earth Federation during the One Year War against the Principality of Zeon. It was primarily piloted by Amuro Ray.

Mobile Suit Gundam is an anime television series, produced and animated by Nippon Sunrise. Created and directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino, it premiered in Japan on Nagoya Broadcasting Network and its affiliated ANN stations on April 7, 1979, and lasted until January 26, 1980, spanning 43 episodes.
