Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero Earns 5 Million USD In The First Weekend After Release

The Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie, which released in 371 theatres across Japan on June 11, 2022, has garnered approximately 685 million yen i.e. ~5 Million USD in the very first weekend of its release.

The movie had attendance of ~300,000 on Saturday and Sunday attendance of 200,000 according to Oricon news. Meanwhile, it sold 210,000 tickets on its Saturday opening as per DBS Chronicles.

The film was shown on 407 screens nationwide (including 38 IMAX versions).

The movie is the first movie in past 4 years of Dragon Ball Super series. The last movie released was Dragon Ball Super: Broly which earned 13.5 Billion yen, globally.

In addition, Japanese fans who will be watching the movie in theatres will be gifted special cards consisting of Goku or Gohan montage. The distribution of these cards will be random and will be gifted only for the first 1 million visitors.

Meanwhile for the Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie 2 million such cards and stickers were handed out.

While rest of the theatres will be handing out cards mentioned above, IMAX theatres will be handing out A3 Posters for their visitors. Although the number of posters are limited.

The movie will be screened in multiple formats like Dolby Cinema, IMAX, 4D and MX4D.

The Dragon Ball Super franchise has released 3 movies before Dragon Ball Super Super Hero movie. The earnings of the previous movies in Japan are:

Last month, Crunchyroll and Toei Animation announced that Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie will release globally in theatres in both subbed and dubbed in the summer of 2022 tentatively in August.

A poster from a theatre in Pennsylvania showcases the release date as August 19, 2022. Although we are officially to receive any news from Crunchyroll or Toei Animation.

Sony Pictures India have also teased the Indian release of the movie.

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, was scheduled to be released on April 22 in Japan and was slated to open in North America this summer, however, it was postponed due to the Toei Animation hack on March 6.

The fully 3DCG film is being directed by Tetsuro Kodama at Toei Animation, and Naoki Satō is composing the music. Nobuhito Sue is the art director, Chikashi Kubota is the animation director, and Jae Hoon Jung is the CG director.
